Spent the weekend kayaking with Jason down Indian Arm. (Between Belcarra and Deep Cove, North Vancouver.)
It was a ton of fun!
We loaded the kayaks with more than enough gear for the weekend, as we wanted to test the load capability before our "big trip" to Murtle Lake next week.
Each boat was pretty stuffed, and had an extra barrel strapped to the back, behind the cockpit.
We had a tent, tarp, therma-rests, sleeping bags, camp stools, food, clothes, rain gear, lots of water, and a ton of other stuff. It's actually amazing how much you can pack into a kayak!
I was a little worried about how they would handle with the extra weight, but they seemed to do fine, even in the ocean! :)
We spent the night on Twin Islands, a very beautiful and private camping area. (Oh, and free!)
It would have been amazing, if it wasn't for the rain!
But that's ok...... the main point of the outing was to prepare ourselves for our upcoming trip, which we did. We need to get used to being wet, lol.
The best part is.... in a canoe, when it rains, you and your stuff gets pretty soaked. In a kayak, the only thing that gets wet is the top half of your body. Get yourself a good raincoat, rain hat, and gloves, and you're set!! Everything else will stay completely dry!
That's actually a really good feature, because I can't tell you how much I hate canoing with wet feet.
Only four more work days left!
I'm starting to plan out meals and make packing lists..... getting really exited!!! Woo!
